Rector Search

In May 2021, our former rector, Fr. Chris Jubinski, accepted a call for Rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Westhampton Beach, NY.  Fr. Chris served Christ Church faithfully and our parish heartily thanks him for his service to God through his work here at Christ Church, Chaptico.  While the search for a new Rector is underway, the Search Committee vows to our congregation that we are prayerfully and diligently working and meeting each week to work through all the necessary steps to discern the "right fit" Rector that God will lead us towards to usher our parish into the next chapter of Christ Church's long-standing history book.

In early April, the search committee was formed and approved by the Vestry under the leadership of Keith Loker, Chair. The Search Committee is composed of members of Christ Church who attend both services and serve in various ways across parish ministries and activities.

By August 1, the Search Committee gathered nearly weekly and worked together to accomplish the following tasks:

 

1. Engage in Congregational Self-Study

  • We reviewed the last Parish Survey and Parish Profile, conducted in 2015, to get a clear idea of some of the information that we would be putting together for the current search for a new rector. 

  • We created a new survey to send out to parishioners for input on the current state of our parish based on the perspectives of the very people who make our church a community. 

  • The parish survey was sent out in mid-June and was closed with the month of July, giving parishioners 6 weeks to give their feedback.

2. Parish Vitality Assessment

  • The Search Committee met with Canon Ann Marie Jeffery from the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (EDOW), to discuss the Parish Vitality Assessment (PVA), an assessment designed to help the search committee navigate the process.

3. Status​

  • We compiled the Parish Survey responses into a cohesive report to convey the needs and desires of our parish as we move towards putting out a call for a new rector.

  • We completed the Parish Vitality Assessment. 

  • We created a new Parish Profile using the information gathered in the Parish Survey, Parish Vitality Assessment, and Vestry-provided financials.
